About

Welcome,

Start Of The Beginning

Counselling service.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is when you can explore all your thoughts and feelings, emotions and behaviours in a safe place. Therefore finding the right therapist is very important. For any therapeutic change to take place first their must be a psychological connection between the therapist and client. As a client you will only open up to someone you feel comfortable with and feel you can trust.

I had reached a time in my life, when felt I wanted to give something back to others.  As a result I became a listening volunteer for Samaritans. Soon after this as well as volunteering on their phone lines I decided to join their prison team. Knowing the difference that listening to someone can make, no matter what their circumstances are, is one of the things that inspired me to become a counsellor. I was then made redundant so I used this negative thing , and turned it into a positive  and focused on counselling.

My learning;

Training to become a counsellor was not easy. I found it was difficult juggling between my family, studies and work. However, it gave me a greater understanding of my own core beliefs, feelings of not being good enough. Something I believe many of us are familiar with. Leading on from this I could identify my negative thoughts and anxieties. Once I had done this I was able to challenge them to become more positive in my own life. Developing healthier relationships with those around me.

While counselling at a rape crisis centre, I developed an better understanding of the trauma people have endured in their lives. The resulting impact it has on them, and those around them. Learning every day about those around us, and the difficulties some people have had to overcome in their lives, is a privilege.

Being a busy mum of four, and having two children who are on the autistic spectrum, has had its own challenges. Since having to explore thoughts, of self harm, and suicidal thoughts is not something I thought I would experience as a mum. For a while I felt there was not enough support for parents, with children either on or off the autistic spectrum. The lack of support we received at this difficult time confirmed this.

How can I help you:

I wanted to do more to help others, therefore I decided to set up a private counselling practice. I believe if I provide the core conditions of empathy, congruence and a good therapeutic relationship then you will find your own answers. To become the best that you can be.

I offer people a safe space to explore their thoughts and emotions. As a result they can learn why they feel the way they do, and begin to understand the impact events, or others actions and words have had on their lives and their behaviours. Providing a non-judgemental place, where all the unspoken thoughts, can become spoken.

“Through this process I have come to understand that I am good enough and I just needed to believe that. I am slowing starting to believe this and as a result my life is changing, I am happier, more confident and more focused than I have ever been in my life. Thankyou Gaynor for helping me see what I could not. Words can’t do justice for the way I see life now.”
