About me!

Welcome, If you are thinking of Counselling or Hypnotherapy its important you know who your counsellor or hypnotherapist is.

So what about me, well I offer a free no obligation consultation.

Giving you the opportunty to tell me a little about yourself and why you feel you need counselling or hypnotherapy. Also to see if I’m the right therapist for you.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look

About me and why I wanted to help others.

I`m a qualified counsellor, supervisor and clinical hypnotherapist.

With one autistic child and another Asperger’s, and one granddaughter with ADHD life is eventful to say the least.

The lack of support we received at an incredibly difficult time confirmed that there was little support out there, and it really felt as though we were on our own.

Nothing can prepare you for the emotions you experience in relation to self harm, and suicidal thoughts, especially when they are your own child’s thoughts.

It is not something I thought I would experience as a mum and I needed to do something to change this but I didn’t know what.

My first Step..

Eventually I reached a time in my life, when I felt I could give something back to others. So I became a listening volunteer for my local Samaritans branch, here I recognised that by listening without judging someone, you could ease their suffering and pain in that moment.

Soon after volunteering on their phone lines, I joined their prison team were I visited two local prisons to train and support prisoners to become listeners for other prisoners.

A huge shout out and thank you to all the Samaritans Volunteers across the UK you are amazing.

Counselling offers support to find balance
Counselling supports clients to find balance within their life.

Knowing the difference that listening to someone can make,

no matter what their circumstances are, is one of the things that inspired me to become a counsellor.

It literally can make the difference between life and death. Something I experienced working on Samaritans phone lines.

I also began working towards another qualification.

Understanding Autistic individuals and those with other emotional and social needs. To not only help my clients but also my family.

About me and my counselling training.

Training to become a counsellor was not easy and I found it  difficult juggling my family, studies and work commitments.

My personal counselling and training gave me greater understanding of my own core beliefs. Essentially learnt more about me

I recognised feelings of not being good enough.  Something I believe many of us are familiar with.

Leading on from this I could identify my negative thoughts and anxieties.

Once I had done this I was able to challenge them to become more positive in my own life.

Developing healthier relationships with those around me.

I spent three years counselling at a rape crisis centre. It was here I developed a knowledge and understanding of trauma.

The resulting impact it has on individuals, and those around them.

Working with clients experiencing dissociation, trauma, self harm, shame and suicidal thoughts. It was incredibly hard but so rewarding.

Talking therapy can make a significant difference to your life. Counselling can give a sense of perspective, balance and growth to the client.

The most important thing is that you as a client are comfortable with your counsellor. If you dont feel at ease therapy may not be as successful as it should.

As a client you need to feel believed, and safe, feeling not only heard but understood.

Counselling provides a safe non-judgemental space for you to  explore any thoughts and feelings you may have about things that are happening in your life, both now and in the past.

My practice is client led, so it is about you and your needs. The only expert in my counselling room is you, because you are the expert on you.

I offer compassion based focused therapy, to support you and guide you in your therapeutic journey.

Clinical data shows that Hypnotherapy significantly reduces anxiety and benefit individuals for a variety of things.

Recognising this I then trained and qualified in clinical hypnotherapy so I can offer my clients something more.

Hypnotherapy is an effective tool, it is quick and really beneficial. Listening to others and hearing about the difficulties and trauma people have had to overcome in their lives, is a privilege.

I believe I offer a warmth, compassion and understanding to all my clients.

Exploring relationships using symbols in sand tray

The importance of Creative Counselling

Sometimes clients may feel unheard, silenced. They may not know where or how to start. I believe its my role to help you find a way to speak to be heard. Through the use of creative materials and interventions such as sand tray, symbols, dream boards, therapy cards I support clients to discover themselves.

Creating new understanding and empowering them to move forward with a sense of direction and positivity.

My role in the Creative Counsellors

The Creative Counsellors Organisation are a community with over 8500 members from 99 different countries.

I am the Events and Retreats Lead for the organisation.

In 2018 we successfully recieved funding from the Facebook Community Leadership programme.

In 2019 this enabled us to run over 40 networking, training, peer support & counselling skills shares across the UK. Supporting therapists to work with clients in ways that give them a voice.

We also create and deliver training to other therapists face to face and on line.

I offer weekly trainings in our membership and run a weekly peer and reflection group  to support other professionals on their journeys of discovery.

I  organise and host a self care retreat every year for counsellors. The retreat  provides an opportunity to rest and restore their own energies preventing burn out and vicarious trauma, during which we offer a variety of creative workshops to revitalise and inspire.

I also host  our annual creative conference for therapists and enjoy which provides a learning and nurturing experience .

I continue to fundraise for Samaritans and hold an annual fundraising dinner for their local branch. https://www.samaritans.org/

I also continue my growth as a professional by attending training and other relevant events regularly. keeping up to date with ethical issues to benefit my client work.
